Knee Arthroscopic Surgery

As one of the joints that bear the most weight, the knee suffers from greater susceptibility to injury. Knee arthroscopic surgery is a minimally-invasive procedure that is used to examine or treat a range of knee conditions. Silicon Valley Orthopaedics offers this type of procedure as part of our commitment to providing conservative orthopedic care to patients at our California practice.

Traditional, open knee surgeries result in large incisions that can cause extensive trauma to structures and tissues around the knee. With knee arthroscopic surgery, small incisions that typically measure less than an inch in diameter are used. This will allow Dr. Nic Gay or Dr. Masi Reynolds to guide tools precisely with the aid of a small tube known as an arthroscope, which consists of a light and camera.

You will experience less pain, and recovery is usually much faster with knee arthroscopic surgery. There is also a reduced cost, as the treatment does not involve complex open surgery or a lengthy hospital stay. In most cases, knee arthroscopy is a one-day procedure at Silicon Valley Orthopaedics.

Knee Conditions Treated with Arthroscopy

“Treatment” is a relatively loose term when it comes to knee arthroscopic surgery, as the procedure is also used for examination and diagnosis. However, conditions that may benefit from treatment through the use of knee arthroscopy may include:

  • Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears
  • Bone spurs
  • Cartilage loss
  • Infections
  • Knee fractures
  • Loose bodies
  • Meniscus repairs
  • Posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) tears

Do not suffer needlessly with a knee injury or medical condition. Silicon Valley Orthopaedics may be able to offer effective, conservative treatment through knee arthroscopic surgery.
