Ankle Arthroscopic Surgery

Ankle arthroscopic surgery is a minimally invasive procedure that uses small incisions to enable the investigation and treatment of the joint. Due to the small size of the ankle joint, pressurized fluid and traction are used to increase its dimensions during the procedure. Silicon Valley Orthopaedics may recommend ankle arthroscopic surgery for the treatment of conditions such as osteochondral defects or ankle impingement.

One of the major benefits of ankle arthroscopic surgery is a faster recovery. In many cases, outpatient treatment is possible, and you will be able to return to normal activities much sooner than with open ankle surgery. There is also significantly reduced scarring from an ankle arthroscopic surgery, as only two small incisions are necessary.

Dr. Nic Gay and Dr. Masi Reynolds may favor an ankle arthroscopy when a closer examination of an injury or joint condition is necessary. Imaging tests can reveal a considerable amount of useful information. However, they cannot be used to investigate the joint through the manipulation of soft tissues or joint structures.

Conditions Treated through Ankle Arthroscopic Surgery

There are a number of conditions that Dr. Nic Gay and Dr. Masi Reynolds may potentially treat using ankle arthroscopic surgery. The treatment of an ankle that is mechanically or functionally unstable often involves an arthroscopic procedure. Other conditions that are treated with ankle arthroscopic surgery at Silicon Valley Orthopaedics may include post-fracture pain, ankle osteoarthritis and loose bodies in the ankle joint.

At Silicon Valley Orthopaedics, patients benefit from excellence in clinical diagnosis and treatment of injuries and diseases affecting the joints. If you are experiencing pain or instability in one or both ankles due to injury or illness, Dr. Nic Gay and Dr. Masi Reynolds would like to hear from you.
